Planning permission for two adjoining blocks of apartments has been granted by Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council (SMBC).
The development will be built on King Street West, Edgeley, and will provide 73 affordable rent-to-buy flats. The site is currently occupied by a van sales business and a former car wash, both of which would be 'removed' to make way for the new development.
The buildings aim to 'satisfy the aspirations' of the Town Centre West development programme, according to the planning statement.
Nor is this the only building being developed as part of this programme - plans for a block of 144 apartments only a few hundred metres down the road are awaiting approval from SMBC.
The buildings will be only 5-7 minutes walk from the train station and the new bus interchange respectively.
30 would be one bedroom flats, whilst the other 43 would be two bedroom flats. 16 parking spaces will be provided in addition.
According to the planning statement: "The proposed design, layout and wider submission have been prepared following extensive pre-application discussions with, and incorporate feedback from, SMBC.
"The site is in a sustainable location, and benefits from being in relatively close proximity to Stockport town centre's facilities, including being a short walking distance from multiple travel options, particularly by bus and by train providing local, regional and national connections."
