Edgeley set for a series of new public murals
Edgeley is set for a series of new public artworks, funded with Town of Culture money and orchestrated by Urban Fronts.
Urban Fronts is a public art project, and has only recently completed a series of murals in Reddish. The aim is to support small businesses by painting artwork on their shutters or windows, brightening shop fronts and beautifying the area.
Edgeley district centre is next in line for such artwork, with paintings planned for a number of shop frontages.
To date, local Urban Fronts artists have painted six shutters and two windows, with more planned before the end of the year.
This first stage of the project was funded in part by Stockport Council District Centre Fund or by Greater Manchester Police ARAS Fund, with the remainder funded by the business itself.
The purpose behind Urban Fronts is to bring public art to our local high streets and, in doing so, help to regenerate these areas alongside other projects to improve their look and feel, and help to generate additional footfall for businesses operating locally.
Urban Fronts is developed by Drawing Board Productions - a Community Interest Company that produces Post community newspapers, Arts & Culture Stockport supplement, and which delivers numerous projects and events for local communities.
The Edgeley programme is one of a number of new Town of Culture projects announced recently. Read more about the other projects HERE.
