Stockport Council has published a list of 30 Town of Culture projects and events, collectively paid for with £100,000 worth of government and Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) funding.
The list includes a whole range of initiatives spanning the length and breadth of the borough. Some examples include:
- A food, music and craft fair in Cheadle
- An outdoor art gallery in Edgeley
- A Brinnington walking trail
- A street party hosted by SK1 records
- A children's poetry festival
- A concert from Stockport Symphony Orchestra
- And much more…
You can find a full list of all the projects HERE.
These projects are part of 'Phase One' of Town of Culture funding, and come alongside flagship events such as Stockport Moves, the Stockport Makes public art show, and more.
This initial round of projects has been funded with £50,000 received from the GMCA and £50,000 from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
Stockport Council will be making further announcements in the coming weeks about other funded projects under the Town of Culture banner.
The Town of Culture Community Fund is still open for applications until 31 December 2023, where those with their own projects in mind can apply for funding. Read more HERE.
Councillor Mark Hunter, Leader of Stockport Council, commented: "This is a really exciting time for Stockport.
"We already know we have a rich array of talent on offer across the borough, and our Town of Culture funding gives organisations the space to be creative and celebrate the cultural heritage of Stockport."
