A chippy in Marple Bridge has been named among the best fish and chip shop takeaways in the country.

The Town Street Fryer, based at 9 Town Street, made it into the top 50 for the 2026 Fry Awards.

The awards, run by the Fry Magazine, aim to "celebrate the incredible achievements of fish and chip shops nationwide".

The takeaways are judged by mystery diners, who enter the shop anonymously and make judgements on the food, the cleanliness of the shop, staff expertise, value for money, ease of ordering and social media presence.

Only the takeaways which score incredibly highly make it into the top 50 - the threshold for this year's awards was a total of 97 percent upwards.

Reacting to the news on social media, the Town Street Fryer team said they were 'absolutely thrilled' with the news.

"The award is judged through multiple mystery diner visits, assessing everything from our food quality and cleanliness to our service and value for money – so it makes this recognition extra special", they said.

"A massive thank you to our amazing team and to all of you for your continued support. We couldn't do it without you!"
