Bramhall Hall has been granted £1.6 million for a series of 'urgent' repairs.

Work will include roof stripping, gutter repairs, and leadwork - all of it will be vital in preserving the historic character and architectural integrity of the building.

The hall will remain open to visitors throughout the course of the work, which is expected to begin this coming winter.

The repair process is expected to take around two years.

"Without urgent repairs, the building and its collections are at risk from the elements, and climate change is making this an increasingly pressing concern", a Stockport Council spokesperson said.

The money has been awarded to Stockport Council from an Arts Council grant.

It aims to provide necessary funds for works which are beyond the scope of day-to-day maintenance budgets.

There has been a hall on the site since the Middle Ages; most of what stands today, however, is of Tudor origin.

Bramall Hall welcomes around 36,000 visitors each year, and is currently developing a new exhibition programme to showcase all its beauty in new ways.
