A 12-year-old boy has been charged with attempted assault following an incident at a school in Stockport borough.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with attempted assault, possession of a bladed article, threatening a person with an offensive weapon, and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

The incident took place around 3pm on Monday 10 February.

He has been remanded into custody and is due to appear Manchester and Salford Youth Court today (Tuesday 11 February).

Although police believe this was an isolated incident, additional police patrols have been deployed to the area (around Reddish Vale Road) to 'offer reassurance'.

As Chief Inspector John Picton said: "Whilst we do believe that this was an isolated incident, additional patrols have been deployed to the area to offer reassurance to the local community.

"If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to speak to them."
