Approval refused for 5G mast in Cheadle Hulme
Proposals for a 5G pole in Cheadle Hulme and additional equipment cabinets have been refused by Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council.
The council objected on the grounds that the mast would be too unsightly.
In their refusal notice, the council said: "Due to its considerable size and its prominent siting, the proposed development would appear as an unduly prominent, dominant and discordant addition to the street scene."
The plans had tried to argue the case that the mast would increase connectivity, offer educational benefits, provide commercial upsides for local businesses, and facilitate demand for working from home.
Plans added: "There is an acute need for a new base station to provide effective service coverage and in this case, the height of the proposed street pole is the minimum required to bring the benefits of 5G to this area."
A document attached to the planning application also reiterated the fact that there were no health concerns associated with 5G: "Exposure guidelines govern mobile signals in the UK, and the consensus of reviews by independent public health authorities, including Public Health England, expert groups and the World Health Organization (WHO) is that these guidelines provide protection for all people (including children) against all established health hazards."
However, with 'prior approval refused', the mast will not go ahead.
