13 Stockport businesses nominated for the Manchester Food and Drink Festival awards
13 Stockport businesses have picked up nominations for the Manchester Food and Drink Festival (MFDF) awards.
The shortlist was compiled by leading food and drink critics, experts and writers.
There are 114 nominations in all, meaning Stockport represents around 11% of the selection. All Stockport nominations are based either in the town centre, Reddish, or Heaton Moor / Chapel, barring one nomination from Marple Bridge.
Categories include 'takeaway of the year', 'coffee shop of the year', 'food trader of the year', and more. There is even a 'foodie neighbourhood of the year' award, with Stockport nominated alongside areas such as Levenshulme, Altrincham, Prestwich, and more.
The full list of nominated Stockport businesses is as follows:
- The Mekong Cat - Stockport town centre
- Stockport Gin - Stockport town centre
- Tarsier Spirit - Reddish
- Yellowhammer - Stockport town centre
- Tawny Stores - Stockport town centre

- Littlewoods Butcher - Heaton Chapel
- Cork of the North - Heaton Moor
- Runaway Brewery - Stockport town centre
- Heaton Hops - Heaton Chapel
- Reddish Ale - Reddish
- Fold Bistro and Bottle Shop - Marple Bridge
- Where the Light Gets In - Stockport town centre
The winner will be announced in January 2024 at the New Century Hall in Manchester City Centre.
The MFDF awards began in 1998, and over the years names such as Jamie Oliver, Gordon Ramsay, Tom Kerridge, Fergus Henderson, Michel Roux, and John Torode have all been involved.
The MFDF organisers said: "The shortlist is a showcase of Manchester's wonderful, quality, resilient dining scene, highlighting the many excellent food and drink businesses and talented hospitality professionals here in our region. [...]
"[It] will be a huge celebration of the innovation, hard work and successes that have taken place since the last awards."
