The actor and comedian Al Murray is set to visit Stockport as part of a 2024 UK tour.

Murray will assume his pub landlord character for the 'Guv Island' tour, which will involve a show at Stockport Plaza on April 20.

As it happens, the comedian already has connections with Stockport in his position as managing director of the British Drum Company, based in Reddish.

And alongside his strong drumming credentials, Murray can boast a wealth of critical acclaim for his stand up work.

He has been described as 'wickedly witty' and 'stand up gold' by The Telegraph and The Guardian respectively, and was awarded five stars by the Mail on Sunday as 'a supremely polished performer'.

Wikipedia describes Murray's pub landlord character as "an English publican with conservative values and an animosity towards Germans and the French".

The tour is described as follows: "'Country, the UK, lost its way, seeks life partner/mentor/inspiration. Good sense of humour essential. No timewasters, tedious show-offs or offend-o-trons need apply. HR free zone.'

"Standing up so you don't have to take it lying down anymore, the Pub Landlord is back to make sense of the questions you probably already had the answers to.

"You know what they say: There's no school like the old school, with the dodgy overflowing toilets."
