Stockroom marks significant milestone with first ever registered birth

Stockroom - the new library and events space in Stockport town centre - has registered its first ever birth.
Parents Jen and Dan Nixon from Cheadle registered their three-week old daughter Brianna at Stockroom, which now offers a civic registration service.
It continues on the tradition of civic registration which was first established in Stockport on 1 July 1837. Now, almost 200 years later, that tradition lives on in a new town centre spot, in what Stockport Council described as a 'significant' milestone.
As well as being an official Stockport resident, baby Brianna also automatically gets library access; to help instil a love of books and learning from an early age.
Dan and Jen described Stockroom as a 'lovely space' and said they'd soon be visiting again as a family with their two-year-old son.

Councillor Dan Oliver, cabinet member for communities and culture, said it was a 'pleasure' to welcome Jen, Dan and baby Brianna as registrants.
"This space was created to bring public services and community life together, and this milestone is a wonderful example of that vision in action", he continued.
"Stockroom was always meant to be a place for everyone – and moments like this show why.
"Stockroom isn't just a place to register a birth—it's a place to return to, to play, learn, discover and connect. We're proud that families can now start their journey here, in the heart of Stockport."
Stockroom is also proving popular with long-time residents of Stockport (as well as new ones!).
In its opening weekend alone from Saturday 24 to Sunday 25 May, more than 15,000 visitors popped in for a look around.
Further still, there were 517 new members, with 3,697 book loans and 1,671 book returns recorded.
Stockroom boasts a beautiful open plan layout, with a huge range of areas which make the space perfect for socialising, quiet study, and everything in between.
