The ground crew at Edgeley Park have won an award in recognition of their top pitch management.

Liam Cash and his team were named the 'Professional Football Grounds Team of the Year' at the Grounds Management Association awards at Anfield.

The awards celebrate the best in sports turf management outside the Premier League, Championship, and Scottish Premier League.

It's the second time running that Liam and the team have picked up this award. A County spokesperson said it was 'deserved recognition' for the team which works so hard to keep the pitch pristine for Dave Challinor's Champions.

Head groundsman Liam also picked up a 'Pioneer Legacy' trophy in recognition of his contribution to supporting the next generation of groundspeople.

Liam himself said: "I said this last year – to be in the final stages for an award like this was great recognition for the lads, but to win it is always extra special. It's fantastic to be representing our Club at prestigious awards nights amongst our peers, something we are extremely proud of.

"It is very much a team effort with the work that goes into both EP, and the day-to-day running of the pitches at Carrington. We've had extra load on the pitches this year across both sites with the introduction of our U18s team too.

"It was also great to welcome an England fixture at Edgeley Park, which was fantastic for everyone involved, and we are looking forward to hopefully welcoming them back again soon. The award, as ever, really is a testament to Justin, Jake, Bailey, Ian and Todd for their brilliant work."
