Five-star display from Georgians against struggling Haughmond
By George Jenkins 19th Mar 2026
After Saturday's cup disappointment away from home at Darwen, who reside in the NWCFL First Division North, Stockport Georgians turned their attention to bottom-place Haughmond, as they looked to continue their league momentum as the play-off push drives on.
Many alterations were made from Saturday's team; Luke Casey, who missed out on the squad in the previous fixture, took the place of Harry Lynn, Lucas Berry regained his spot up front, Joe Collins replaced Josh Winthrop following a positive substitute appearance at the weekend, and Danny Kyobe entered the midfield, with Tom Russell being dropped to the bench.
Stockport were comfortably in control for the vast majority of the game, but their first major chance didn't come until the 20th minute. Captain Paul Connor sent a tasty, looping ball directly onto the head of Lucas Berry, who somehow put it wide from yards out; frustrating for the striker, with the chance being easier to score than miss.
The home side didn't rue their missed opportunity for long, though, as they had the lead just before the half-hour mark. A sumptuous finish from top goalscorer Ollie McFadyen, who took the ball on his weaker side before firing across the face of goal and into the bottom right corner.
Georgians had their second, and then third, just before the break, the first of which coming in the 43rd minute. Joe Collins did well down the right flank before whipping a perfect ball to his opposite winger, McFadyen, who looped a headed effort over the Haughmond goalkeeper and into the top right corner. The third of the game came on the brink of the interval, but was likely offside. McFadyen directly involved again- this time jinking by his marker before sending a thunderous strike onto the right-hand post. The rebound dropped kindly for Collins, who easily converted to give Stockport a very healthy advantage at halftime.
Barring substitutions for both sides, little action prevailed in the opening 25 minutes of the second half, until Georgians grabbed their fourth in the 78th minute. Midfielder Will Wareing, who came on in the 70th minute, picked up the ball 30 yards from goal, with intentions of playing winger Josh Winthrop through on goal. His attempted through ball was intercepted, but a miskick from the Haughmond defender, matched by a lack of communication, meant he slotted his attempted clearance around the onrushing goalkeeper, gifting Stockport their fourth of the game.
Haughmond's suffering wasn't up yet, though, as McFadyen sealed his hat-trick with three minutes of normal time remaining. A lovely, teasing ball from Kenzie Cookson found the path of McFadyen, who did well to put away the fifth goal of the game.
With a huge advantage, the game ran out with little to report, eventually being blown up in the 92nd minute. A dominant showing from Stockport Georgians, who will be hoping to take that performance into this Saturday's clash, as they host second-place Eccleshall.
