Stockport County's start to the season continues on poor footing after a 2-1 away defeat to Walsall.

It comes a week after the Hatters' season-opening loss against Gillingham, and a Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Sheffield Wednesday.

Stockport fans at the Saturday game (12 August) were critical of a 'limp' performance, with 'no cutting edge'.

Certainly, this 'cutting edge' seems to be the crux of the issue; fans continue to stress the importance of signing an out and out striker, as the Hatters struggled to convert despite dominating possession.

In what one Walsall fan described as a 'great performance against a good team', the Saddlers scored first with a goal on the break in the 25th minute, as Danny Johnson converted what looked like a too-good-to-be-true chance from close range.

Aramide Oteh more or less buried the game in the 80th minute, with another close range-strike making it 2-0.

County's Ryan Rydel nicked a goal in the seventh minute of added time, but it was not enough to win back a point.

With this loss, Tuesday's game against Bradford has become all the more important. Nonetheless, fans remain optimistic. The season, after all, has just begun, and County have a track record of picking up momentum after slow starts.
