Stockport County made history on Saturday (28 October) with a home win over Tranmere Rovers.

This victory marks the 11th consecutive win for the Hatters - the longest run of successive wins in County's history.

The Hatters opened the scoring early on, after Tanto converted a delicious assist from Odin Bailey. 1-0 after just five minutes.

The misfortune continued into the second half for Tranmere, when Harvey Read-Saunders was sent off in the 48th minute after a foul on Macauley Southam-Hales.

Not long after, Sarcevic doubled County's lead in the 54th minute. The setup to this goal made it onto League Two's X (formerly known as Twitter) page - a fantastic bit of passing football which made Challinor's Hatters look like Pep's Barcelona.

County kept up the pressure, with two successive attempts bouncing off the post and then the crossbar.

Nonetheless, two goals were enough. With this win, this County team has secured both its number one spot in the league, and its position in the history books. Final score: Stockport County 2-0 Tranmere Rovers.

In his post-match interview, manager Dave Challinor described this match as "a lot more comfortable than it has been in the recent past".

He added: "In most instances, we controlled the game pretty well. We were pretty sloppy at times [...], but we've got through with - hopefully - no injuries, and we go on looking forward to the next game."

Commenting on securing an 11th successive win, the gaffer said: "It's a brilliant run. If someone would have said that at the start of the season, you would have poo-pooed the idea, because the challenge of this league is immense."
