Construction work has started on a new business park in Cheadle with green credentials.

Dubbed 'Cheadle Eco Park', it will provide energy-efficient workspaces and create up to 200 jobs.

It comprises seven acres of land on Bird Hall Lane, and will feature six new industrial units of different sizes, designed for 'growing and innovative' companies who are looking to stay and invest in Stockport.

When the park is completed in March 2027, it is expected that there will be a boost to footfall, shops and services in the area as new businesses move in.

There will also be landscaping improvements in the surrounding area, including better walking and cycling links, plus new planting and 'wildlife-friendly' features.

The buildings themselves have been designed to meet 'Outstanding' BREEAM standards - that is to say, the highest standard in lowering carbon emissions according to the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method.

The construction will involve low‑carbon materials, plus energy‑efficient systems such as air‑source heat pumps, natural ventilation, low‑energy lighting, and electric vehicle charging for every parking space.

Only a handful of buildings in the country have met the Outstanding BREEAM criteria.

Cheadle Eco Park has received £4.4 million in Government Towns Fund support and is part of the Cheadle Town Fund programme, which also includes plans for a new railway station and improvements to walking and cycling routes.

Cllr Micheala Meikle, cabinet member for regeneration, economy and skills at Stockport Council, said: "The start on site marks a major milestone in delivering this ground‑breaking, environmentally exemplary development. Cheadle Eco Park is a key part of our ambition to create a modern, sustainable employment zone that brings real benefits to our communities.

"This scheme will create up to 200 new jobs, providing a huge boost to the local economy, while setting a new standard for sustainable industrial space and leading the way for the region."
