Woman dies after being hit by train at Gatley Station

On Sunday 14 May around 8.50am, emergency services were called to Gatley Station following reports of a casualty on the tracks.  

Sadly, the female casualty was pronounced dead at the scene. Her death is not being treated as suspicious.   

British Transport Police said in a statement: "Officers were called to Gatley railway station at 8.50am on 14 May to reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended, and sadly a woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

"This incident is not being treated as suspicious. A file will be a prepared for the coroner."

Following the incident, all services between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport were suspended.

Yesterday, Northern Rail gave the following statement on their website: "Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Manchester Airport and Manchester Piccadilly all lines are blocked.

"Train services running to and from these stations will be cancelled. Disruption is expected until 11:00.

"Services between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport in both directions are currently being disrupted due to the emergency services dealing with an incident. Emergency services will be on site shortly. Replacement transport is currently being sourced."

  • CALM – The Campaign Against Living Miserably supports people via phone and webchat. You can call 0800 58 58 58 or speak to a support worker online. Open 5pm – midnight.
