Winners have been announced for Stockport's Real Public Art Show.

This event, part of the Town of Culture programme, invited members of the public to submit artworks with a thematic link to Stockport. The winners were decided by popular vote.

Bird Taylor took home a deserved first place, with her piece, 'Threshold, Edgeley Garden'.

Meanwhile, in the children's category, Miriam Jennings won first place with her piece, 'My Town', depicting a dramatic silhouette of a Stockport skyline.

Both entrants won £100 of craft vouchers.

Dave Jobling's 'Iconic Stockport' and Nicolas Granville with 'St Mary's Church, Stockport' took the second and third places respectively in the adults category, with Sophie Barratt's 'Pear Mill' and Jess Evans' 'The Frogs are Back' claiming these spots in the children's category.

In all, a total of 1,298 votes were cast by the public, as they selected their favourite artworks. The exhibition - held in Stockport's War Memorial Art Gallery - has also boasted an average of 50 visitors per day since it started at the end of July.

The Real Public Art Show runs until 21 September, and is free to visit. The exhibition is part of the wider programme of Stockport Town of Culture events, and falls under the 'Stockport Makes' category.
