Stockport is one of 52 Wilko stores that will close after a rescue deal has fallen through.

Although B&M bought up to 51 stores in a £13 million deal, a host of other stores will still have to close. As Wilko administrators said: "It is possible that further store closures may regrettably be necessary."

Team members at the affected store(s) will be made redundant.

Edward Williams of Price Waterhouse Coopers said: "In the absence of viable offers for the whole business, very sadly store closures and redundancies of team members from those stores are now necessary.

"The lost of these stores will be felt not only by the team members who served them with such dedication, including through the uncertainty of recent weeks, but also the communities which they have been a part of."

The 52 stores will close either on either 12 or 14 September - Stockport's Portwood store will close on the 14th.
