What's on in Stockport this week - comedy, historical martial arts, and more

Stockport is set for a whole host of varied events over the next few days.
Merseyway's answer to the seaside continues with Merseybay, with a pirate themed day on Wednesday 9 August. Meanwhile, comedy and music events will take place in the town centre, whilst at Bramall Hall you can find some immaculately researched historical fencing.

Outside the Box comedy night | The Garrick | Fri 4 August | 7pm
Outside the Box is hosting a comedy night at the Garrick on 4 August, starring Eddy Brimson, Hayley Ellis, Steve Harris, and MC Big Lou.
Outside the Box comedians perform in a number of clubs across the UK, with legendary names such as Stephen Merchant, Bill Bailey, Dara O'Briain, Lee Mack, Jimmy Carr, and more all having made appearances for the club.
This is not the only comedy night at the Garrick, with dates set throughout the year. Each night features four comedians from Outside the Box, including both circuit comics and brand new talent.
As the club states: "Not only popular for recognisable faces, Outside The Box strives to find the best circuit comics and brand new talent to each and every venue.
"Every bill is designed specifically for each club and we're proud to be known for having a group of gigs that are not only fun for the audience but also for the comedians who perform."

Doors open at 7pm, with the event set to start at 7.45pm.
Silver School of Arms | Bramall Hall | Sun 6 August | 11am
A perfect day out for budding squires young and old, this historically immersive event features immaculately researched European martial arts performed by re-enactors in fully accurate costume.
A description for this event reads: "Silver School of Arms is a Western Martial Arts group that researches, studies, teaches and practices historical fencing and Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) from fighting manuals and treatises.
"They specialise in the Elizabethan period and will be in period kit, giving people chance to handle weapons and delivering weapons displays throughout the day, weather permitting."
This event takes place on Sunday 6 August 2023 from 11am-4.30pm. Last entry is 3.45pm.
Adults £6.50, concession £5, children under 16 go free.
Golden Oldies | Bask | Tue 8 August | 1pm
Enjoy the music of the 50s and 60s with a special afternoon at Stockport's very own Bask.
Live organist Michael Holmes will be playing nostalgic classics from Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Matt Monro, and more.
Meet new friends, enjoy a cake and a hot drink, and benefit from 20% off on the food menu.
This event will take place on Tuesday 8 August from 1-4pm.
'Ahoy there!' Pirates | Merseyway Shopping Centre | Wed 9 August
Enjoy some swashbuckling fun on Wednesday 9 August at Merseybay, which brings a piece of the seaside to Merseyway.
A description for this event reads: "The Stockport Beach is back and it's free.
"This year families enjoy some seaside fun with buckets and spades along with deckchairs for parents to relax whilst the kids play.
"There will also be rides, along with food and drink stalls – charges will apply."
