Stockport is set for a whole host of varied events this weekend.

A short film festival takes place in Marple on Friday, and if that wasn't enough culture you can catch Stockport Symphony Orchestra playing works from Gershwin, Rachmaninoff and Shostakovich on Saturday.

Rounding off the weekend on Sunday is a Halloween trail at Bramall Hall and an alternative market at Bask.

Marple Adventure Film Festival | Marple Scout Hut | Fri 13 October | 7pm

Enjoy an evening of short films at Marple Scout Hut from 7pm on Friday 13 October. Tickets cost £10.

A description for this event reads: "Marple Adventure Film Festival showcases some incredible short adventure films. Providing inspiration, motivation and entertainment in equal measure!

An evening of multiple short films, with food and bar available.

All proceeds going to support 1st Marple Scout Group.

Stockport Symphony Orchestra - Gershwin, Rachmaninoff, Shostakovich | Stockport Town Hall | Sat 14 October | 7.30pm

Stockport Symphony Orchestra (SSO) take to Stockport Town Hall from 7.30pm on Saturday 14 October for a series of wide-ranging performances.

SSO will perform:

  • George Gershwin - Rhapsody in Blue
  • Dmitri Shostakovich - Festive Overture
  • Sergei Rachmaninov - Symphony No. 2

A description for this event reads: "Rhapsody in Blue occupies a special place in American music; it introduced jazz to classical concert audiences and simultaneously made an instant star of its composer. Martin James Bartlett recorded it with the London Philharmonic orchestra and has played it across the world to great acclaim.

"As for the Rachmaninov, never has there been a symphony so rich in sweeping, majestic, extended melodies. The Finale begins like a whirling dance succeeded by the definitive Rachmaninov Big Tune, a glowing, eloquent theme unfolding sumptuously with a stirring coda to bring the symphony to its resplendent conclusion."

Witch's Potion Trail | Bramall Hall | Sun 15-29 October

This is a spooktacular spotting trail within the Hall. Batilda the resident witch fell from her broom, scattering ingredients in every room! Find them all, get them right, to make a potion for Halloween night! There is a small prize if you find all the ingredients and you might even get to meet Batilda, our slightly scary witch!

Stockport Alternative Market | Bask | Sun 15 October | 11am-4pm

Stockport Alternative Market will make its debut appearance at Bask on Sunday 15 October from 11am-4pm.

The market will see 12 local artists and traders, along with food and drink.

A description for this event reads: "It's free entry, and will feature a great selection of unique traders, a bangin' playlist and our great food and drink selection."
