It's just over two weeks until Stockport's Armed Forces Day, which will take place on Saturday 29 June.

Like in previous years, visitors can expect a parade, as well as a range of other events and activities across the town centre.

The parade will set off from St Peter's Square at 10.45am, finishing up in Market Place.

After the parade (expected to finish around 11am), free and family-friendly activities will be taking place throughout the town centre until 4pm.

These include:

  • Live music on the Strawberry Radio Stage in Market Place
  • Military exhibitions around the Market Hall, featuring 40 displays
  • A WWII trail around the town centre for youngsters (Visit the Stockport Normandy Veterans legacy stall in the Market Place to start the trail)
  • Replica Spitfire showcase at the Merseyway Shopping Centre
  • Crafting activities at the Merseyway Shopping Centre
  • Stockport Air Raid Shelters and Stockport Museum open for free visits

The day is an important one in reminding all residents - young and old - of the sacrifice of servicemen and women, past and present.

The event is being organised by Stockport Armed Forces Community Organisation (SAFCO), which represents the armed forces and veteran community locally.

Amanda Peers, chair of SAFCO, said: "In 2023, Stockport showed its recognition of our Armed Forces Community, and I'm delighted that we are able to hold the event once again this year.

"We have even more events going on this year and it will be fantastic opportunity to recognise and acknowledge the valuable contribution and huge sacrifices made by those who serve our country.

"We are all grateful to Stockport Council and partners for their support and also to local businesses and organisations for making this happen through sponsoring the event – I'm sure it will once again be a great day for the whole of Stockport to celebrate."
