Stockport Council is inviting residents to vote for the name of the new transport interchange.

The shortlisted names are Arches Park, Viaduct Park, and The Overbank. They were decided following focus sessions with community groups.

Residents can vote for their favourite by placing a token at a voting station. Two stations are currently situated in the Merseyway shopping centre and Stockport Market Hall respectively, and will remain there until 5 January 2024.

Sitting between the A6 and the Viaduct, the new building (affectionately dubbed 'the tissue box') will feature new bus stands, a travel shop, cycle links, and 196 new residential apartments.

It will also feature a rooftop park, walking and cycling routes, and an events pavillion. It has even been future-proofed for Metrolink, should a service arrive in Stockport.

Cllr Mark Hunter, leader of Stockport Council, said: "The new park will be a fantastic space in the heart of our town centre, and one which everyone will be able to enjoy.

"We've got some fantastic events planned for the year once it is open, which will really boost our status as Town of Culture, and I can't wait to see everyone enjoying the space and what it has to offer."
