'Viaduct Park' has been announced as the name of Stockport Interchange's new rooftop park.
The name was decided following a public vote on a shortlist of three names - Three Arches Park, The Overbank, and Viaduct Park.
After thousands of votes - cast using tokens in Merseyway shopping centre - Viaduct Park was the winner.
The rooftop park will open on March 18, with the interchange itself opening the day before on March 17. The park will feature green space, play areas, and a range of events.
The new interchange itself will house 18 bus stands, with the capacity for 164 departures per hour. Find a full list of the services and the stands they will use HERE.
The building will be fully accessible, with ramps, walking / cycling pathways, a spacious passenger concourse, and more.
Cllr Mark Hunter, Leader of Stockport Council, said: “It’s a monumental day for Stockport and I’m delighted to be able to finally announce the name of the park as it has been a closely guarded secret since the vote ended in early January.
“Viaduct Park is not just a park, it is the heartbeat of Stockport’s transformation. The winning name is a great nod to our iconic Viaduct and it’s fitting that the park will provide great views of this amazing structure for years to come.
“We’ve got some fantastic events planned for the year once the park is open, which will really boost our status as Town of Culture, and I can’t wait to see everyone enjoying the space and what it has to offer.
Vernon Everitt, Greater Manchester Transport Commissioner said: "We can't wait to welcome passengers...
"The old bus station has been transformed into a modern, attractive and accessible interchange with facilities for customers and staff fit for the 21st century. It will help people make journeys around Stockport, Greater Manchester and further afield and will be a central element in the introduction of Bee Network buses in Stockport from January 2025.
"I urge everyone to make sure they are familiar with where they need to go to catch their bus before the interchange opens on March 17."
