Greater Manchester Police (GMP) recently announced the arrest of two adults in Stockport town centre on Sunday (28 May).

"The adult male has been charged with theft, and the adult female has been charged with handling stolen goods", a statement said.

"Both are prolific offenders in the Stockport town centre area", GMP adds.

The male and female have been remanded into custody; their cases will be heard at Manchester and Salford Magistrates court.

Recent Neighbourhood Watch statistics revealed that the town centre reported 29 incidents of crime from 8-14 May, the highest in the Stockport borough.

Most of these incidents were theft related; four involved burglary and three involved shoplifting, with other incidents relating to theft of possessions, motor vehicles, and damage to vehicles. In that week there was also a robbery at William Hill, Bridgefield Street.
