Two men who were responsible for firing guns in Stockport and South Manchester have been jailed.

In 2023, 30-year-old Kieran Morgan (of Dean Street, Failsworth) and 22-year-old Zaki Shazad (of Ranford Road, Levenshulme) shot inside two houses in Heald Green and in the DRIP bar on Kingsway, while innocent people were nearby.

The pair were sentenced to a total of 34 years in jail at Minshull Street Crown Court on Monday 9 June.

The first firearms discharge had occurred on 12 March 2023 at Dorac Avenue in Heald Green. The second happened on 21 April 2023 at an address on Wilmslow Road, also in Heald Green.

A family was in the driveway during one of these firings - they managed to take cover in a vehicle and described hearing an 'explosion' as the gun went off.

Detective Inspector Lee Newburn of Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said it was 'miraculous' that nobody was seriously injured by these discharges.

GMP investigators quickly linked the three incidents together, and used CCTV and doorbell / dash camera footage to create a timeline for each incident.

Morgan was identified using this footage, after he was seen wearing a specific jacket in both CCTV footage and a picture he'd posted on social media.

And although he was wearing a balaclava at the scene of the incidents, CCTV from a few streets away caught him without it, clearly showing his face.

Detective Inspector Newburn added "Today we have seen two dangerous individuals locked up for their parts in a number of firearms discharges targeting properties where innocent people were present.

"It is miraculous that no-one was seriously injured during these firearms discharges, but they could very easily have been.

"One of the victims of these shootings has described to me how scared she now is to go out in public and just how shaken she is about what happened. Nobody should be made to feel like this.

"We continue to work very closely with the communities in and around Greater Manchester to ensure that we protect them from this kind of violence, and we are grateful for the intelligence that we receive from them in relation to illegal activity on a daily basis."

Greater Manchester Police said of the sentences: "At Minshull Street Crown Court on 9 June, Zaki Shazad (02/08/2002), of Ranford Road, Levenshulme, was sentenced to 16 years after previously being found guilty of conspiracy to possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life.

"Kieran Morgan (22/11/1994), of Dean Street, Failsworth, who had also pleaded guilty to conspiracy possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life at a previous court hearing, received a sentence of 18 years with an extra five years on licence."
