A 64-year-old man has sadly died following a collision near Stockport Road yesterday evening (Monday 9 June).

A car collided with the man as he was walking along Slade Lane, near the junction with Portland Street and the A6 / Stockport Road.

The driver of the car - a 78-year-old woman - has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Police are appealing for anybody with any information to come forward.

The incident took place around 8.10pm last night - it was visible to anybody travelling between Stockport and Manchester along the A6 last night.

Onlookers also reported seeing the incident on the railway line between Manchester and Levenshulme.

Ambulances, fire engines and police cars were all in attendance. Emergency services have since left the scene but workers are there repairing the street damage.

Police believe that the collision involved the pedestrian, the car, and some nearby street furniture.

The 78-year-old woman remains in custody for questioning.

Police can be contacted via 101 or at gmp.police.uk, quoting log 3283 of 09/06/25.

Alternatively, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
