Network Rail has announced that track refurbishments will take place at Heaton Chapel station across the year.

The company, which manages most of the railway network in Great Britain, said that railroad track mats (which reduce vibration on the rail track) will be replaced, with works set to take place sporadically from August to February next year.

A letter to residents who live near the station read: "[The work] will help us to operate a safe railway and increase the reliability of passenger and freight trains.

"To complete the work, we will use track machines, small plant, generators, and lights."

The works will take place between 23.50 and 05.05, with dates as follows:

  • Wed 16 August - Fri 18 August 2023
  • Wed 27 September - Fri 29 September 2023
  • Wed 8 November - Fri 10 November 2023
  • Wed 20 December - Fri 22 December 2023
  • Wed 31 January - Fri 2 February 2024

Network rail said that 'some noise is to be expected' for nearby residents.
