Thriving nature reserve in Bramhall to get a boost

Ladybrook Valley - a nature reserve in Bramhall - has received a boost for clean-up and conservation.
A donation of tools and equipment was given by United Utilities to the Friends of Ladybrook Valley group, a voluntary organisation which works on improving the beauty spot.
The tools will go towards maintaining the river path, a wildflower meadow, and more.
The group relies solely on grants and funding, so donations such as this are critical in allowing them to continue their work.
Volunteers met with representatives from the water company as they handed over the equipment. The donation consisted of items such as PPE, litter pickers, rakes, spades and wheelbarrows, so that the volunteers can continue and expand their efforts safely and efficiently.

Lynn Good, from Friends of Ladybrook Valley, commented: "Over the 29 years Friends of Ladybrook Valley have been caring for Bramhall's Happy Valley our tools have become worn or broken. With no funding stream the group have found it difficult to replace equipment and have resorted to borrowing or asking volunteers to bring their own tools on task days.
"The equipment United Utilities have donated to us ensures we can provide volunteers with the right tools and PPE for the work we do.
"The more specialised equipment will be especially useful for our wildflower meadow project and for helping us to maintain the willow spiling along the Lady Brook; stopping embankment erosion and keeping the river path open for the community to use and enjoy."
Thanks to the work of the Ladybrook Friends' Group, this area of the Happy Valley has been transformed from a once neglected 'wasteland', to a thriving nature reserve.
Already it's become hugely popular, attracting visitors from in and around the area.
Regular task days for the volunteers range from building fences to the removal of invasive plants from the river to ensure water health is maintained.
Shy Bayly, from United Utilities, commented: "The team at Friends of Ladybrook Valley are extremely passionate about what they do and it's encouraging to see the volunteers doing all they can to maintain and improve their area, not only for themselves but for the benefit of the environment and its wildlife - we're really pleased to have been able to support the group with their ongoing efforts."
