Three people have been charged following a police day of action in Stockport town centre and Edgeley.

Ormen Senaj, 31, was charged with the cultivation of cannabis, whilst Ryan Wrigley, 36, was charged with four counts of shoplifting. Both were remanded into custody following court appearances.

A 16-year-old was also charged with a public order offence and bailed.

The day of action took place on Friday 22 March, and saw officers in uniform and plainclothes patrolling the area.

Patrols were also implemented around the newly-opened travel interchange.

The day formed part of the wider 'Operation Rimini' initiative, which is described by Greater Manchester Police as "a combination of policing tactics [...] with extra resources committed to the town centre".

Sergeant James Senior said: "We aim to get out and about amongst our communities to make sure that we are visible and doing exactly what our community wants us to do [...]

"There are huge changes in Stockport - massive regeneration, and we need to stay ahead of that curve and make sure we are challenging people who are coming here to cause anti-social behaviour.

"And that doesn't stop today when Operation Rimini is over - this is an ongoing operation which shows our commitment to stopping crime."

Speaking of the interchange patrols, superintendent Rachael Harrison said: "Stockport is going through a massive regeneration and we're really proud to be part of that.

"The top priority for me is making Stockport a place where people are safe and feel safe, so there is a massive commitment from me and from GMP Stockport to meet that objective.

"We policed Stockport before the new bus station, and we will police it afterwards."
