A record number of children in Stockport took part in a book competition this summer.
Thousands of children from across the borough took part in the 31st iteration of the Stockport Children's Book Awards, where readers vote for their favourite book in three different categories.
Children were given a shortlist of books to read in each category and were then asked to vote for their favourite.
A massive 36 schools took part this year.
The winning titles were:
- Best Picture Book: Jenny Peckles Lays Eggs with Speckles, by Rachel Emily, illustrated by Paul Delaney
- Best Read for Juniors: Good Bits, by Kes Gray, illustrated by Ruby Wright
- Best Read for Upper Juniors: Gloam, by Jack Mackay
The winning and shortlisted authors attended a special ceremony at Stockport Town Hall, along with parents, children, teachers, and Mayor of Stockport Cllr Mark Hunter.

Cllr Dan Oliver, Cabinet Member for Communities, Culture and Public Protection, said: "The Stockport Children's Book Awards are a wonderful celebration of reading, creativity and the power of stories to inspire young people.
"It was fantastic to see so many children from schools across Stockport taking part, sharing their love of books and helping to choose this year's winners.
"Congratulations to all of the shortlisted authors, illustrators and winning titles, and a huge thank you to our libraries, schools and volunteers for making the awards such a success. We hope the awards encourage even more children to discover the joy of reading."
