Stockport's music scene is abuzz at the moment, with plenty of bands on the circuit and a range of great venues to host them.

And as for the most important parts of music making - rehearsing and recording - there's a similar range of top spots; among them is the new High Peak Recordings based in Hazel Grove.

Owned and run by audio engineer and musician Bon Holloway, the studio offers three roomy, quality rehearsal spaces alongside a fully kitted-out recording studio for local musicians to bring their projects to life.

All parts of the studio, based at the Simpson Business Centre, are carefully considered - from the cleanliness of the rooms through to the custom-built sound buffers along the walls.

The studio started in July 2024, and since then has become a firm favourite among local players, boasting a flawless five-star rating on Google reviews.

As Bon explained, his aim has been to create a professional atmosphere, which is at the same time fun and unintimidating.

"It's just such a buzz", he said. "My favourite thing is welcoming in creative people and hearing them play.

"And it's great to hear people get it right - the best moments are seeing the band nail a take and saying 'that was the one'".

The space has already played host to a wide range of genres - from rock, country and synthpop through to more avant-garde genres such as 'hauntronica'.

The acoustically-treated rooms, high-quality equipment and Bon's expertise all mean that nothing is off the cards genre-wise.

Which is just as well, given how impressively varied Stockport's music scene is at the moment.

"I'm always amazed at how big the music scene is here and how brilliant Stockport is in general", Bon said.

"And it's always great welcoming in so many young bands."

Bon graduated in Music Production and Sound Engineering from Spirit Studios, a music school in Manchester.

This studio in Hazel Grove is the product of this technical insight, as well as Bon's lifelong love of making and listening to music.

The studio boasts an array of high-quality pre-amps, a great selection of microphones, and top-of-the-range recording software and plugins.

And it's not just recording - High Peak Recordings also offers mixing and mastering services which prepare the tracks for commercial release.
