Flying Scotsman steams through Stockport once again
By Alasdair Perry 16th Jun 2026
Legendary locomotive The Flying Scotsman passed through Stockport today (Tuesday 16 June) in what was the second time this month.
The Scotsman - pulled by a diesel locomotive - passed through Stockport's platform 0 on Tuesday 16 June at around 4.29pm.
It comes just two weeks after the locomotive steamed through the borough on its way to Bury.
Over the last few days it has been on static display at Bury railway station, and travelling around stretches of the East Lancashire Railway.
It called at Stockport again on its way back to Doncaster.
Described as 'The People's Engine', The Flying Scotsman is perhaps the most iconic steam locomotive in history.
Having first entered service in 1923, it has over 100 years of highs and lows - from being the first steam locomotive to reach 100 mph, through to narrowly escaping scrap due to cuts.
