Community green space proposed to replace 'derelict eyesore' in Heaton Moor

Peel Moat open space has been disused for a number of years, and could be in line for conversion into green community space (Image - Friends of Peel Moat Open Space)

Plans have been submitted to repurpose a disused all-weather sports pitch in Heaton Moor into a turfed public open space.

Proposals would see the existing astroturf pitch removed and replaced with 300mm of grass-seeded soil, bringing a community green space to an otherwise disused area of land.

Peel Moat open space - the land in question - is situated near St Thomas' Primary School. The pitch on the site fell into disuse in 2012, after the nearby Peel Moat Recreation Centre closed.

Stockport was on the world stage recently, as two local cheerleading teams achieved second and fifth place at the International All Star Federation (IASF) World Championships this year.

The prestigious event was held at ESPN's 'Wide World of Sports' venue in Florida, near Orlando.

The 'Cheerleading Worlds' championship began in 2004 with two divisions, and has grown to include hundreds of teams in more than 20 divisions. Thousands of athletes from across the world compete for the coveted World Champion title.

Local teams 'Midnight' and 'Twilight' won fantastic finishes; team Midnight finished second in the world, scoring 131.4 out of a possible 150, whilst team Twilight placed fifth, in what was their first time at Worlds.

Over £10k raised after SEN school's facilities destroyed in 'deliberate' fire

Just after May half term, parents and students at Castle Hill School received the news that thousands of pounds of equipment and facilities had been destroyed after an 'intruder' broke in and started a 'deliberate' fire.

Shortly after, a fundraiser was started to cover the costs of the damage, which has since garnered £10,000 in donations.

Castle Hill High School in Offerton is a Special Education school for students aged 11-18 with significant and complex needs.

The half-term fire completely destroyed Castle Hill's outdoor forest school, which was used to teach students about the natural environment and problem-solving. A police investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Inside Saddlewood Pianos, Stockport's musical answer to The Repair Shop

From glossy Yamahas to relics from 1902, Peter can get pianos of all shapes and sizes sounding the way you want (Image - Saddlewood Pianos)

You might not think that the tired, dusty piano propped up against your wall is capable of galloping through mazurkas or twinkling through jazz standards with quality sound, but Peter of Saddlewood Pianos would disagree with you.

An instrument may be abrasively out of tune, it might look like Laurel and Hardy dropped it down the stairs, but this does not prevent it from returning to or even exceeding its original quality.

Saddlewood Pianos is a Stockport-based business offering piano tuning and repair for the North West and beyond. Owner Peter's work involves everything from the restoration of family heirlooms and total instrument overhauls to minor tuning adjustments.
