The four Heatons has been named among the best places to live in the UK by The Times.

The area featured in the newspaper's 2025 roundup of best places to live, which assesses things like schools, the local high street, transport, broadband, and more.

The judges praised the area's 'relative affordability' and strong independent high streets.

Their glowing write-up reads: "The four Heatons together make one super suburb, squashed between the middle of Manchester and Stockport's increasingly zeitgeisty centre.

"Family-friendly but funky, the area offers trendy indie stores and enough quirky cafés and cool coffee shops to keep the buzz going whatever the hour.

"This is a relatively affordable place to bring up a family in a substantial Victorian or Edwardian red-brick villa on a tree-lined street."

This year there were 72 winners in all, with individual regional winners. Although the Heatons was strongly praised, the top spot for the North West went to Woolton in Liverpool.

The number one spot nationally went to Saffron Walden in Essex.

It comes hot on the heels of when Stockport was named the best place to live in the North West in 2024's list.

Speaking last year on the kinds of towns which make The Sunday Times' full list, Helen Davies (editorial projects director and Best Places to Live editor) said "These are all places where you can feel grounded as well as upwardly mobile.

"They have a mature sense of community, lively, supportive high streets and an eye to the future, whether that is eco-friendly measures, transport and regeneration, or imaginative inclusion of new housing."
