Temporary accommodation has been found for local charity Autisk after they were forced to leave their main centre due to building issues.

Until February half-term, the group's sessions will take place at Adswood Primary School, which is located directly adjacent to the Adswood Young People's Centre, their usual headquarters which they were forced to vacate this week.

The Young People's Centre was put out of action due to a 'serious building safety issue'.

The building has now been secured while further assessments take place.

Autisk is a community group which provides sessions and support for families and young people with autism, anxiety, and other learning difficulties.

In the meantime, Stockport Council is working with Autisk to find an appropriate venue for Autisk's February half term holiday club.

The council said it was 'extremely grateful' to Adswood Primary School for "stepping in at short notice to provide a safe and welcoming space".

"This swift arrangement ensures that children, young people and families can continue to access vital support without interruption", a council spokesperson added.

We understand how unsettling this situation may be for those who rely on Autisk's services, and we are sorry for the disruption caused.

"Stockport Council continues to work closely with Autisk not only to maintain continuity in the short term but also to secure suitable longer term accommodation. Our shared priority is to ensure support continues without interruption while plans for a permanent solution are developed.

"Our families and staff remain at the heart of our planning. Together with Parents and Carers Together Stockport (PACTS), we are supporting Autisk to ensure the change of venue is managed in a way that minimises any anxiety for families and staff and maintains continuity for children, young people and their families."
