A handful of technological upgrades can now be found in Stockport town centre.

For one, a new digital real-time bus timetable is in place at the stop opposite Stockport College, near Brentnall Street.

The new electronic screen provides accurate times for the latest buses, as well as times for later services.

Boards are being installed across Greater Manchester's bus network to keep customers more informed on their journeys.

"New digital passenger information displays are currently being tested in Manchester city centre as part of a pilot, with two further sites due to be added as part of a six-month evaluation", a statement from Transport for Greater Manchester said.

"The long-term plan is for electronic departure boards to be installed at key locations across the Greater Manchester bus network to assist customers in making their journeys."

Nor is this the only town centre upgrade - a series of new LED street lamps are also in place in the Underbanks.

They maintain the traditional Victorian street lamp trapezium style, however they contain new LED fittings.

They can be found affixed to the wall, descending the steps from Petersgate onto the Underbanks.

Like the Underbanks itself, they merge tradition with a contemporary edge.
