Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has officially cancelled "the rest of the HS2 project" which was due to incorporate Stockport.

Speaking at the annual Tory conference, the Prime Minister said: "I am cancelling the rest of the HS2 project and in its place we will reinvest every single penny [£36 billion] in hundreds of new transport projects."

Instead of a new line from Birmingham to Manchester, HS2 trains will use existing West Coast Mainline running through Stockport. This will not be a high-speed line.

Plans submitted for 'vibrant' new Caribbean restaurant in Stockport Underbanks

Plans have been submitted to Stockport Council for a new Caribbean bar and restaurant in Stockport's Underbanks.

The proposed location is the former Stage Door costume shop, adjacent to SJS Smith Jewellery.

Most changes would take place internally, with a ground floor and below-ground floor, along with a bar and kitchen.

The facade would see less wide-ranging modifications, although the front windows would change.

The application says: "We have proposed transforming the existing building's poor appearance and state of repair into a good quality presentable establishment to match other shops currently on Little Underbank.

"The empty space is to be transformed into a vibrant upscale Caribbean restaurant and bar to co-exist within other establishments on the street. This establishment will add value to this illustrious place."

ALDI has singled out Bramhall and Warrington as the two 'priority' locations in the North West for a new store (Image - ALDI)

Supermarket chain ALDI has revealed that Bramhall is a 'priority location' for a new store as it plans to open more sites across the country.

It is one of only two 'priority' locations in the North West, the other being Warrington.

ALDI has 1,000 sites across the UK, with plans to expand to 1,500 following a £1.4 billion investment.

The supermarket has said it is searching for: "Freehold town-centre, edge-of-centre, and retail park sites suitable for property development. The sites should be able to accommodate a 20,000 sq foot store with around 100 parking spaces."
