Romiley’s Forum Theatre to reopen in June after RAAC repairs

A theatre in Romiley, Stockport is planning to reopen its doors in June after being closed for months due to RAAC.

The Forum Theatre was forced to close in September following an update to the government's guidance on dangerous concrete.

But following months of work, NK Theatre Arts – the company operating the theatre – has announced that there are plans to open the doors again on Thursday, June 20, presenting the musical 'Everybody's Talking about Jamie', to be performed by youth theatre members.

Much-loved shopkeeper and postmaster retires from Heald Green store after nearly 50 years

Muhammed Saleem has served as a shopkeeper in Heald Green for 49 years, and postmaster for 27 - this 'lovely' man is now taking a well-earned retirement (Image - Post Office)

Long-serving postmaster Muhammed Saleem has retired from his Heald Green shop after almost 49 years. 

Muhammed opened the shop with his wife Mary, and, more recently, the pair have enlisted the help of their daughter Hanna, too. 

Now 76, Muhammed has decided to retire to spend more time with his family, including his grandchildren. 

Muhammed and Mary are staying local, though, and will remain in Heald Green for their retirement.

Hazel Grove looks set to become one of Greater Manchester's 'battleground' seats at the next general election.

A new poll has suggested that it is the Liberal Democrats who are most favored to win - but other candidates have made their own cases.

The Lib Dems are currently leading with 42% of the predicted vote share, followed by the Conservatives at 22% and Labour at 19%, according to an MRP poll by YouGov and reported by The Times.
