The A555 has fully re-opened after having to close temporarily due to flooding.

A stretch of the road was closed from 5pm on Tuesday 18 November until this afternoon (Wednesday 19 November), following heavy rain throughout Tuesday.

Stockport Council has said it is working on a 'wider programme of improvements' for the A555.

This particular instance of disruption was caused by a tree which was felled during Storm Claudia - the tree created an unexpected blockage in the system which meant the road had to be closed.

"Thank you for your patience while our teams worked at pace to make the road safe ahead of the evening rush hour", a council spokesperson said.

"We know this stretch of road has ongoing challenges, and we're working on a wider range of improvements."
