A pub in Stockport has appeared in National Geographic as one of the 12 'best boozers' in the UK.

The Magnet, on Wellington Road North, featured in the list alongside pubs in London, Cornwall, Edinburgh, Brighton, and more.

Penned by 'The Thinking Drinkers', the list involved a strict set of criteria, with an aversion to loud music, Sky Sports, and ordering with QR codes.

The write-up for The Magnet ran as follows: "You may have heard talk that Stockport is becoming trendy — with The Magnet attracting a lot of attention. And quite rightly, too.

"If everyone had a neighbourhood local like this, the world would be a better place. Spread across several rooms, it gets all the basic things bang-on with a no-frills focus on drinks, snacks and, crucially, the community.

"Beyond a brilliant beer selection and impressive array of gins, there are pub games and a sun-soaked beer garden."

This is not, in fact, the first accolade that The Magnet has picked up. The SK4 pub was named 'Best Pub 2017' at the Greater Manchester Beer Awards, and has also picked up awards from CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale).

The pub is family-run, and offers drinks from as far afield as the USA, Germany and Belgium, along with a range of English ciders.
