Stockport's 'filming boom' brings millions in local investment

Film and TV productions in Stockport have brought millions of pounds' worth of investment into the local economy, the council has said.
In two years, various productions have generated an estimated total of £6.7m by increasing jobs, boosting tourism, and through direct spending on local services.
Stockport's latest starring role is in The Power of Parker, which returned for a second series on Friday 30 May on BBC One.
And early in May 2025, crews arrived in Stockport to shoot scenes for 'Run Away' - the new series based on Harlan Coben's book of the same name.
The borough is popular for its proximity to key studios and facilities, and for its variety of filming locations - historic streetscapes, urban high-rises, verdant countryside and more.
Stockport Council also said it aims to be 'film-friendly', working closely with TV and film crews.

Cllr Dan Oliver, Cabinet Member Communities, Culture and Public Protection, said: "It's fantastic to see Stockport continuing to attract such high-profile film and television productions.
"Our borough offers an incredible variety of locations, and it's great to see them featured on screen. Productions filming here not only shine a spotlight on Stockport but also bring significant economic benefits to our local businesses and communities."
Chelsea Foster, Creative England's Production Liaison Manager for the North West & Midlands, similarly added: "It has been an absolute pleasure working with the teams at Stockport Council to ensure a film-friendly experience for a variety of exciting HETV dramas and feature film productions.
"It's fantastic to see this area continue to be a hot spot for filming. The teams here have worked diligently to provide extensive support that is greatly appreciated by all involved. I very much look forward to seeing what other exciting productions come to the area!"
