Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has appointed a new district commander for Stockport.

Chief Superintendent Lewis Hughes has been appointed to the position, in what GMP describes as "a new phase of leadership at the district level".

Ch Supt Hughes joins six other new district commanders across Greater Manchester.

He has worked in the police service for 27 years, predominantly in crime and intelligence roles at district and force level.

In 2022, he worked as a crime and vulnerability lead in Bury, before returning to the Serious Crime Division where he has helped achieve justice for victims across multiple complex operations for GMP.

A GMP spokesperson said: "Each one of the new commanders will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience within policing to their roles. They'll oversee and direct operational activity to solve problems in their area, and work with partners to protect the vulnerable to ensure the best outcome possible for the community."
