Anti-social behaviour (ASB) in Stockport town centre was reduced by two thirds over the Christmas and New Year period, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has announced.
GMP Stockport has said that the reduction owes to a special police operation during the two-week holiday period, where police carried out plain-clothes patrols in the town centre.
In the same period from 2022, there were 18 incidents; this time around, there were six.
Furthermore, during the summer school holidays, there were 50% fewer reported incidents after a similar operation.
Chief Inspector John Picton said: "ASB will not be tolerated as it can have a significant detrimental effect on public confidence, consumer footfall and the ambience and atmosphere within localised areas.
"Combating and preventing ASB is a priority across the force with policing teams proactively tackling the issue and arresting and prosecuting offenders.
"These operations will hopefully continue as we are committed to tackling ASB.
"Incidents of anti-social behaviour should always be reported so police can investigate."
You can also report information and crimes at www.gmp.police.uk using the 'report' tool.
Alternatively, you can report information anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
