A street cat who was being looked after at RSPCA Stockport has been adopted and found her forever home.

Fliss, a Bengal cat, was originally found as a stray - when she was found, she was severely underweight, covered in sores and fleas, and suffering from anaemia.

She was rehomed at the RSPCA's animal adoption centre - based at Pets at Home - where she stayed for 100 days before finding her loving new owner Jayne.

Fifty-seven-year-old Jayne, whose two other cats died last year, said Fliss has brought 'joy' to her home.

"It's amazing to have seen how she has transitioned from being a street cat in a terrible state to then getting better through the care of the RSPCA and her wonderful foster mum then into into her forever home with me", Jayne said.

"It's such a rewarding thing. I cannot imagine her ever having to suffer again. It's unthinkable."

After losing her two other cats, Jayne said she had decided to wait until her next feline friend found her - one day she was checking Facebook and saw a post about Fliss, and immediately decided this was her next cat.

"Stockport is a little out of area from where I live but due to Fliss' needs the distance wasn't such an issue.

"Fliss has atopic dermatitis and a very sensitive tummy so is on meds and on a special diet. The RSPCA foster mum explained all this so well so I was able to understand how I could help her."

But despite a hop to Derby and some health issues, Fliss quickly made herself right at home.

"She wandered in like she owned the place, but did take a while to settle at night," Jayne said.

"It wasn't long before she was sleeping on my bed by my feet! She was as good as gold, used her tray, ate her food and although she found a few quiet spaces she was quite social.

"She is sassy, funny, full of beans and knows her own mind, what she wants when she wants it and how to 'ask' for it.

"She is super intelligent and independent but at bedtime always comes and snuggles up to me. She is also chatty. I sometimes get a better conversation out of her than I do humans!"

Dannii Leach, rehoming coordinator at RSPCA Stockport Animal Adoption Centre, said: "We all remember Fliss who was a very memorable cat for us and I'm really pleased she found a home with Jayne who is an incredible adopter!

"In the end she waited for more than 100 days to be rehomed and also spent time with one of our amazing foster carers.

"We are always looking for adopters to help us give forever homes to our resident cats, please do reach out to us for more information or check out the animals looking for a home on Find A Pet.

"We also urge cat owners to neuter their pets to avoid accidental litters which also contributes to further animals in our care. More information can be found on our website."

Jayne added that she hopes Fliss' rehoming journey encourages others to consider adopting a cat or pet with any special extra needs.

"Please think about adopting seriously - the animals are so desperate for good homes, and more animals are being saved every day," said Jayne.

"The RSPCA does a fantastic job of helping and supporting throughout the whole process. The pets come chipped and neutered too. I got a lot of support throughout the process from the team and was always made to feel quite special and thanked for adopting her.

She added: "Please adopt - and help these amazing animals, they will give back so much unconditional love and really do need your safety and care."
