A local scout has been honoured with a top award at a prestigious, star-studded ceremony at Windsor Castle.

Aaron Dorber from Stockport received the King's Scout Award, and was praised by Chief Scout Dwayne Fields at a special event on 26 April.

The ceremony was a recognition of the outstanding work of scouts like Aaron in volunteering and adventuring.

Also present at the ceremony were top scout ambassadors including astronaut Tim Peake.

The King's Scout Award is given to scouts aged 16-25 who demonstrate outstanding personal achievement.

To achieve it, young people complete a series of ambitious challenges, including volunteering in their community, undertaking an expedition in wild country, and taking part in a five‑day residential experience in a new environment.

In completing his award, Aaron took on expeditions in Snowdonia, the Lake District and Macchu Picchu in Peru.

"The award has been a huge part of my Scouting journey and has really helped build my confidence along the way", Aaron said.

"As a Cub leader, I've been running sessions focused on the environment and community, and I'm especially proud that we've grown from a small group after Covid to 36 Cubs, including a diverse range of young people with different level of needs!

"Looking back, the King's Scout Award has shown me what I'm capable of and given me experiences I can now pass on to younger Scouts to show them it's achievable too."

Chief Scout, Dwayne Fields said "Huge congratulations to every single one of you on achieving your King's Scout Award.

"This is something truly special. It shows the grit, determination and passion you've put into your Scouting journey.

"You've stepped up, shown leadership, gained skills, and made a real difference to the people around you - helping give others a place to belong. That's what being a Scout is all about.

"This award isn't just a pat on the back for what you've done so far, it's a reminder of the incredible potential you've got for whatever comes next. I'm excited to see where you go from here.

"Keep pushing forward, keep saying 'yes' to new challenges, and keep leading the way."
