Stockport RUFC U14s set for rugby tour after successful fundraiser
Stockport's very own Scorpions will be representing the town in a rugby tour to Leominster, where they will face Luctonians RUFC.
The tour was made possible through a crowdfund on JustGiving which has raised almost £4,000, making short work of the £3,000 target.
Money was also raised through the sale of tour brochures, and the team got involved with other fundraising activities such as bag packing and cake sales.
Although the fixture against Luctonians is the main event, the money will go towards a full weekend experience aimed at providing the players with team-building training, as well as many memories to go with it.
The money raised will pay for all players to go on the tour; every player taking part was something the club stressed as very important.
Stockport Nub News spoke to the club, and head coach Myles Mason told us that "Stockport Rugby Club U14's forthcoming tour to Leominster will certainly be the highlight of their 2022-23 season.
"It will provide a unique opportunity for teammates to get to know each other and develop team building skills that will help them both on the pitch and in their lives in general.
"We were determined that this experience should be for all members of the squad and our fund-raising efforts have made sure that is affordable for all.
"Bag packing at a local supermarket, a cake sale and a promotional tour brochure have been the key parts of the fundraising campaign and I am extremely grateful to all those who have supported or sponsored the 'Scorpions'.
"Their support has been invaluable in providing this fantastic weekend for the members of the squad.
"Exciting outdoor activities such as raft building and a high ropes course have been organised around the main event - our rugby fixture against local team Luctonians RUFC.
"The team are looking forward to the challenge and all the fun a tour brings!
"Finally, I would like to thank our tour organiser, Amy Shaw, for all her hard work in putting the tour together and giving the players a weekend to remember."
On the JustGiving page, the club emphasise that the trip would be instrumental in developing the players and helping them reach their full potential, setting them on the road to becoming future rugby stars.
Stockport Nub News would like to join all supporters of the trip in saying best of luck to the squad, who are representing the town fantastically.
