Stockport restaurant Where the Light Gets In wins big at Manchester Food and Drink awards
Stockport's very own Where the Light Gets In (WTLGI) restaurant won big at the Manchester Food and Drink Festival Awards 2025.
WTGLI won in the 'Restaurant of the Year' category, and the restaurant's founder - chef Sam Buckley - also picked up the Howard and Ruth Award for Outstanding Achievement.
This year's awards featured 136 nominations across 17 categories, showcasing the creme de la creme of Greater Manchester cuisine.
The shortlisted nominations were compiled by a judging panel made up of the region's leading food and drink critics, writers, and experts.
Kat Wood, a creative director at WTLGI, said the award was "such a pleasant and unexpected surprise".
"It's a real validation that we're still doing meaningful work", she added. "We're currently working from a pop-up kitchen in Manchester while the restaurant undergoes restoration, so we're even more excited to get back to doing what we do best in April.
"It's fantastic to see Sam recognised for his contribution to Stockport's food scene."
WTLGI is a Michelin Green Star restaurant based in Stockport's old town, with a menu which is "regulated by the seasons and [their] own creative touch".
Food critic Marina O'Loughlin wrote in The Guardian that WTLGI featured "the most exciting food I've eaten in years".
Currently undergoing restoration, it's due to re-open in April.
