A volunteer charity has pledged £1,000 worth of goods to Stockport foodbank.

The Rapid Relief Team - a charity which supports other charities - started the year with a £300 donation of food and toiletries to the foodbank, with the other £700 to follow soon.

Stockport foodbank is run by a team of 130 volunteers, who operate eight centres across the town, aiding in the preparation and delivery of food parcels.

The Rapid Relief Team (RRT) is also made up of volunteers - this donation comes from members of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church.

The RRT aids charities, emergency services and other organisations focused on supporting those in need across Greater Manchester, East Cheshire, the wider UK, and internationally.

Nigel Tedford, general manager at Stockport food bank, said he was 'thrilled' with the donation.

He added: "This will be immensely helpful to us and enable the volunteer team to continue to make a vital difference to the lives of others. At this early stage I'd like extend our early thanks to everyone who has been involved in making this donation possible."

Kevin Bond, local team leader for RRT UK, said: "It was excellent to be able to deliver £300 worth of food and toiletries to Stockport Food Bank. The new year period can be a challenging time for many and, with the cost of living continuing to place pressure on many families, we hope that this donation will go a long way to supporting to those in need.

"Alongside this donation we're also pleased to announce a quarterly pledge of support to the food bank, which will help them over the course of the year.

"As a voluntary team, we have been honoured to work together with countless inspirational people at emergency services, charities, and other organisations who share our passion for delivering meaningful and impactful support to our local communities.

"We look forward to building on this early initiative with Stockport Food Bank in the coming months."
