Although it might be tempting to jettison your worn or unwanted clobber, there is in fact a far more productive way to get rid of it.

Recycle for Greater Manchester (R4GM) has launched its new 'Cotton On' project which encourages people to recycle their old clothes in dedicated bins around Stockport and Greater Manchester.

Even the most damaged clothes can then be turned into carpet underlay, bedding, car seats, and much more.

Stockport's three recycling centres each have a textile bank, and there are similar clothes bins in supermarket car parks and in large clothes stores.

Further still, Stockport Council has re-issued a call for school uniforms, following a successful second-hand initiative this summer.

Anybody with second-hand school uniforms which are in good condition but no longer needed are encouraged to donate them.
