Stockport Pyramid curry house plan to be decided next month
The future of Stockport Pyramid is set to be decided next month.
Plans by the Royal Nawaab to turn Stockport's iconic landmark into a huge curry house with space for 1,500 diners and 150 staff were revealed last year, in a design which includes a buffet restaurant and banquet halls across three floors.
The Pyramid could be used to host large events such as weddings within a 'lavish spacious area' if the plans are approved, and bosses say it would create new jobs and be a huge boost to the local economy.
The upper floors of the building are due to used as storage and office space for the restaurant. The huge structure next to the M60 was designed and in the late 1980s when construction work began, before it opened in 1992.
It was most recently used by the Co-operative Bank, but it has sat empty for years, creating fears that it could fall into disrepair if left unused.
A planning application to transform the building was lodged in July last year, and now the plans could be about to take a huge step forward.
Stockport council confirmed the plans are due to be discussed at two local areas committees this month, and come before the town hall's planning panel on November 14 where the future of the Pyramid will be decided.
Mehboob Hussain, founder of Royal Nawaab, said: "We are delighted about the proposed development of the Stockport Pyramid and the significant positive impact it is set to have on both the building and the wider area.
"Our plans are designed to create a vibrant destination offering exceptional dining experiences and versatile event spaces, which will contribute to the local economy and generate job opportunities in Stockport and the Greater Manchester area.
"Furthermore, we are committed to collaborating with local suppliers across Stockport and the North West to ensure that this iconic building is revitalised with the support and expertise of our local partners.
"We eagerly anticipate the council's decision and are hopeful to proceed with bringing this exciting vision to life."
